Was Zur Frak?
[info]wayofdisaster
File under "how'd they do that?"

This is a light show being projected onto the side of a building (in Berlin).  I know that I'm watching a 2D video of if, not seeing it live, but damn! that looks impressively 3D.

More iTV Movies

Just another place to find an occasional movie:

Feature Films at the Internet Archive

(Especially the sci-fi/horror section.)

These are public domain movies which means mostly ones that lost or didn't claim copyright before the law was revised to give automatic coverage ("Night of the Living Dead" is a particularly famous example that lost copyright this way).  So they're pretty exclusively pre-70s, but if you enjoy corny old sci-fi/horror movies, there's some fun ones here (as well as some old Vincent Price classics and such that aren't half bad).  Although, the copyright status of some of them may need to be verified... (I think it's just as claimed by the uploader, but I know some of them are kosher, so willing to give it the benefit of the doubt).

Some examples: "Night of the Living Dead" (of course), "Plan 9 From Outer Space", "Invasion Of The Bee Girls", "The Last Man On Earth" (original version of "Omega Man" starring Vincent Price"), "Manos Hands Of Fate"

Another way to sum it up might be to describe it as the entire source library used for MST3K.

Of course, because they're public domain, many can already be found on Hulu or NetFlix streaming, but not all of them.

WTF!  Somebody remind me since this is 100% indistinguishable from the worst of Bush (except that he's better at shoveling it).

My Kind Of Crazy
[info]wayofdisaster

News story:  Swede admits home-made atom experiment was 'crazy'

Guy trying to split the atom in his kitchen.

There's also a BBC audio interview with him which really is pretty sad.  Not because of the guy, but because the interviewer is clearly ignorant of science and nuclear physics in particular, and is the sort of person who thinks that splitting an atom (be it in the kitchen or in nuclear power plants) means that things blow up atom bomb-style.  Perpetuating the same old ignorance-based nuclear boogeyman that is the last thing the future needs right now.

But anyway, not sure why the guy had to resort to eBay (unless it was just laziness).  You can get some decent material just from smoke detectors.  Didn't he read about the guy in Detroit who already tried something similar (The Radioactive Boyscout; also)?

But in this case, actually "Funny".  (More or less; needs better actors for the "victims".)
